About Kristen Fong, MFT
Empathetic, interactive and a safe environment in which to focus on concerns is the way my clients have described therapy with me.
I am a solution focused relationship therapist who helps to guide couples and individuals towards greater clarity and transformative change in their intimate or close relationships. I take you through a life-examining process combined with a structured approach to shifting from problem focused to solution building. Most people are stuck because of old, negative thoughts & reactions. Your relief will come when you become unstuck.
My specialties are couples and relationship counseling and anxiety and depression therapy. I also work with people who have had a difficult or abusive childhood and persons trying to come to terms with having a narcissistic mother.
The WIEBGE acronym stands for “Will I Ever Be Good Enough?” and signifies certification in Dr. Karyl McBride’s five-step recovery model for treating adult children of narcissistic parents.
Many of the areas I work in are focused on narcissistic relationships and the effects and/or symptoms of of being part of a narcissistic dynamic. Being the daughter of a narcissistic mother who abandoned the family at age 12, and being part of a narcissistic family dynamic motivated me to help others stuck in or affected by having had a self-absorbed parent. I became trained and certified in Dr. Karyl McBride’s 5-step recovery program because it is an invaluable tool to reclaiming yourself and your life from emotional abuse. The program gives me an effective way to not only identify & validate an adult daughter’s feelings, but it allows for a clear path to healing and happiness.
I have been an MFT in Marin County for 20 years, but prior to that I worked in education and business sector. I gained insight into the challenges of intense stress and how repetitive patterns of thoughts, and life behaviors can have a detrimental affect on our lives and relationships. I hold a Bachelors of Art from San Francisco State and a Masters of Art in Counseling Psychology from the University of San Francisco. Also, I have taught a number of classes on relationships and parenting around the Marin community.
